Then you tell it to play the boisterous music station. For example, let's say you have a lot of boisterous music downloaded in a big playlist. The downloaded tracks are available for play also in stations or when you tell it to play an online playlist that has some tracks that are downloaded and some that are not. Downloads go to storage until you delete them. (Except in the current version, downloading plexamp-generated mixes seems not to be working - I have downloaded mixes in the past.) When you do this, the download dialogue asks you how many hours of the playlist, mix or station you want to download. You can tell it it to download any playlist or mix and some stations. If you are playing a playlist or station with a DJ and you move out of network coverage, the playlist or station keeps playing, but you don't get the tracks the DJ would have inserted. You cannot see what is in the cache or interact with it.Ĭacheing does not work for DJs since DJ tracks are decided on the fly. Cache is constantly being refreshed - you don't need to manage it other than setting how much of it you want to use. It is adequate for me to get through a 5-hour car trip, about half of which has no mobile reception, without even thinking ahead. So what many people do is start playing a playlist at home when they are in their wifi and let it load up. That's probably just short of 3 hours depending on the style you are listening to. You can set this number of tracks separately for WLAN and cellular connection. Maximum in my android version is 40 tracks and I set it to that. Plexamp has a cacheing setting that tells it how many tracks ahead in the play queue to preload. In fact you could save your money and still use Plexamp when you are in an unstable network environment. If you have all your playlists set up and aren't interested in algorithm-based exploration, and you always stream to your hi-fi in a stable network environment and don't mind the clunky interface for music provided by the standard plex app, then you can safely save your money and ignore plexamp. Note that you don't need to pay for this, and lossless streaming doesn't matter when you are in a noisy environment like the street or your car. The adaptive cacheing of files while streaming to get you through spotty reception, changing networks and even multi-hour stretches of no signal like plane flights and country highways.Improved exploration of the music library through the Sonic analysis features like DJs, track radio, album radio, sonic journey, etc. The following two features each on their own make the extra cost to use full-feature plexamp worth it for me. Plexamp is a massively better interface into your music library than the standard Plex app. Please go to the relevant subreddits and support forums, for example: Build help and build shares posts go in their respective megathreads No referral / affiliate links, personal voting / campaigning / funding, or selling posts Welcome to /r/Plex, a subreddit dedicated to Plex, the media server/client solution for enjoying your media!
